Overview:
- There is no one clear answer for sound control without knowing the frequency and decibel level of the sound a window purchaser wants to control.
- The best starting point is to ask for specifics on the type of sound the customer wants to control.
Solution Ideas
Frame
- Milgard Quiet Line Windows
- Vinyl Windows -- hollows in vinyl frame help deaden sound.
- WoodClad Windows -- hollows in pultrusion frame help deaden sound.
- Air infiltration can affect the amount of sound that enters the home. The greater the air infiltration, the greater the amount of sound that can get through.
Glass
- Laminated Glass -- Best
- Lites of differing thicknesses -- See note below
- Insulated Glass -- a noticeable improvement from a single lite.

- Use caution specifying differing thicknesses of glass. The wavelengths where this combination is effective are very specific. Refer to the glass charts in this Play Book.
